ECO/EGO'2011: IT'S NOT A CRIME. ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT
ECO/EGO'2011: IT'S NOT A CRIME
Environmental project.
Creative Director: Egle Mei
Composer: Meike Holzmann
Concept: Whe seeing a blue sky by Merleau-Ponty, 1945/ 1962: I must find the attitude which will provide it with the means of... showing up as blue; I must find the reply to a question which is obscurely expressed. And yet I do so only when I am invited by it... As I contemplate the blue of the sky I am not set over against it as an acosmic subject... ... I abandon myself to it and plunge into the mystery, it ‘thinks itself within me’, I am the sky itself as it is drawn together and unified...
HOME. Home holds my comforts, my struggles, my cares, and my longings. Perharps, more that anything else, home reminds me of the relationships that I bear and constitute my experience of the world. How we are at home in our language as a culture is related to and constitutive of how we find ourselves in relation to the Earth, our most shared home. How we find ourselves in our bodies and as our bodies in the world and with other people depends so much on how we feel, where we are, and who we’re with. We may realize that we always already exist in an inseparable, intimate interrelationship with nature as an authentic other; we may become aware of our transpersonal identity as nature, that we are not merely in nature but that we are nature.
ALIENATION. Our postmodern era - our alienation from nature. We gain security and power through technological domination of nature and economic expansion, our exclusionary identification as ego-centered subjects, belief in a real and inevitable dualistic separation of humans and nature, our anthropocentric view of humans as the exclusive locus of meaning and value. The word wilderness derives from the word “will”, suggesting that wild nature has a will and mind of its own. When living egoically we cannot tolerate this. The insecure ego, needing control and power, strives to impose its own will and superiority. We often experience a kind of narcissistic rage when nature does not bend to our will. Fear is one indication that one’s sense of awareness is increased within the connection of nature. This is not fear of nature itself, but fear of how powerless one can be within the context of the wildness of nature and the realization that nature is much more powerful than any one individual. Our alienation is evidenced by mounting ecological catastrophes such as loss of habit and biodiversity, extinction of species, overpopulation, global warming and the poisoning of our water, food. It is evidenced in increasing rates of asthma, cancers, anxiety, depression, narcissism, addiction, emptiness and acting, in our confusion over existential concerns regarding meaning, value, purpose, identity and responsibility. Dissocation is especially evident in our denial of these interrelated crises: feelings of depression, anxiety may be a natural reaction to the recognition that we have seriously harmed our planet and continue to do so; anger towards ourselves and each other for our neglect and impotence to change. We are inundated with propaganda alleging that “you can’t stop progress”, progress as economic expansion dependent upon the technological exploitation of nature. Humans over nature... mind over body... males over females... whites over people of color... wealthy over poor...
RE-ENTRY. The world is more vast than our ego and its wishes. There is perhaps no greater example of creative process that the one already existing in the natural environment: tha changing cycles of the seasons, the planting and growing of crops, the delicate balance of the ecosystem - all powerfully creative and inherently connected and influencing humanity.

ECO/EGO'2012: CTTV. ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT
ECO/EGO'2012: CTTV
Environmental project.
Creative Director: Egle Mei
Music: Julian Casablancas "I Wish It Was Christmas Today"
Concept: The CTTV (Christmas Tree TV) live performance refers to the recent postindustrial stage of capitalism that transits us from a disciplinary society to a control society. The concern links to the panopticism – perversive politics instrument of social control enabling power to be both all-seeing and invisible. After realizing the appeared doubts about necessity of being filmed by CCTV in streets and public places and what does it mean to us, how does it make us feel, what are our rights, the sense of freedom and democracy, safety vs, control, I highly motivated myself by the project ctrl[space], Merleau-Ponty's works and the Panoptic mode of power described by Foucault in his “Discipline and Punish”, to get a deeper understanding. After discovering the conspiracy theory about globalization and control the research stopped... And the game started. Dummy CCTV cameras were installed on a Christmas Tree that was placed near the entrance to Sefton Park. Just to make sure you feel safe during the intimate time spent with your families.
